Background :
I received a PhD (1978) and docent (1990) degrees in economics at the Warsaw University. In 1995 I became Full Professor of Economics. Thanks to German Humboldt Foundation I researched and studied German economics and social policy at University of Mannheim (1988 – 1989) and also attained knowledge about social indicators idea and development at ZUMA (1989). 1991 – 1997 I co-ordinated research projects of such new topics for Poland as poverty, non-profit organisations, social insurance, evaluation of social programs. I developed on a large scale comparative studies in different subject of social policy and labour market and participated in several international research projects. I am Professor at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow – Institute for Public Health, where I manage the institute and teach economics of health and social security. I also closely co-operate with CASE (Centre for Social and Economic Research) Foundation and IPiSS in research projects in the fields of social issues in the Central and Eastern European Countries.
