The University of Rennes I bases its activities on a joint mission of providing education and research.
The University covers a wide range of disciplines which are organised around three scientific areas: sciences and technology, health sciences and human sciences (law and political science – economy – management – administration – philosophy).
Thanks to the high quality of the courses offered and the expert teaching staff at hand, the University of Rennes I attracts a large number of French students, and is fast obtaining an international reputation. Today the 1 500 teaching staff teach to 22 000 students and around 2 800 professional on continuous training.
The Faculty of Law and Political Sciences was founded in the 18th century. Today, it caters for 5 000 students both on campuses in Rennes and Saint-Brieuc, and represents one of the most important components of the University of Rennes I.
Through its team of 120 researchers and 70 external contributors, the faculty is engaged in research activities in association with a number of well-known international laboratories. The faculty offers high-level programmes including 15 professional Masters, of which the Master “Law, Health, Ethics‿ is co-delivered with the ENSP.
The Faculty, which is situated in the centre of Rennes, offers a location that is both pleasant and practical.

Rennes and surroundings
As the Capital of Brittany, Rennes has a generous architectural and landscape heritage, stemming from its history which comes through in the town’s monuments, streets, houses and parks.
Rennes is an old fortified city listed as “Town of Art and History‿, rich in wood face and stone art. It offers marvellous colourful strolls along its medieval pedestrian streets and its picturesque settings.
The inhabitants of the town along with its 60 000 students can take advantage of the cultural, sporting and culinary diversity on offer and which is easily accessible by bus, metro or on foot. For culture there are concert halls, the well-known Transmusicales and Les Tombées de la Nuit, theatres, cinemas, public libraries… Sports equipment includes cycle tracks, tennis courts, swimming pools, ice rinks, football stadium… And in terms of cuisine, there is a savoury combination of Brittany dishes, such as crêpes and galettes, and plenty of seafood.
Less than 100 kilometres away from Rennes, some beautiful settings are offered to you like the famous Mont Saint-Michel, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the pirate town of Saint-Malo which is a renowned seaside resort. In addition and still not far away, you can visit the Emerald and Pink Granite coasts where the unspoilt nature seems to change appearance in the fading evening light.
