My name is Vu Hong Phong, I am currently a PhD student at Department of
Sociology, University of Essex (United Kingdom). From 2006 to
2008, I was student in the European Master of Public Health Program. The
program brought me great benefits and a pathway to a PhD program. In the first
year of the program at University of Sheffield, I learnt a wide
range of issues that were all essential for the promotion of health of the
public. In the second year, I enjoyed studying advanced epidemiology and
biostatistics, and health economics. These second year courses helped me deepen
my knowledge of quantitative analysis of health data. Knowledge and skills I
gained from the program helped me successfully apply for a full grant for my
current PhD program in sociology. I would strongly encourage prospective
students to consider joining this fascinating program.

The EuropubHealth
programme provided the much-needed bridge at the point I was in my career - a
masters degree (two masters at the end)! I not only received training in public
health, my skills in specific areas have improved considerably. For example
some of these include: using databases, internet search engines and writing. I
can also say, I have developed a keen interest in understanding policy
development, which wasn’t the case before i embarked on the programme though i
had worked in related field.
For me, the Europub
programme is a life time opportunity that makes all the difference in my public
health career! Please keep the flag flying to many others like me. Thank you!!!

It was a great
opportunity and it was a pleasant learning experience. Apart from it, it was
much about getting to know about each other and was interesting knowing
about different cultures and way of life.
Thank you everyone
for the effort you all gave to provide us the best learning experience.

Europubhealth, the
most exclusive course has boosted my public health knowledge and skills, my
understanding and adaptation to different cultures, and ultimately my
professional and personal life. One year is over, but I still miss my golden
days of Europubhealth. I miss those classes, assignments, exams, friends,
parties, dancing, visa applications, booking tickets and travelling from one
university to other. I can confidently say that who am I today is mainly
because of Europubhealth. I would like to thank everyone who has made my life
wonderful, starting from the European Commission to the six partner
universities and of course my lovely Europubhealth friends.

Students of the 1st Europubhealth intake together in Rennes for their last curriculum module and graduation.
Integration module
From the 30th June to the 11th July 2008, the EHESP has welcomed Europubhealth students from 17 different countries, who followed for 2 years an academic curriculum in different universities of the Europubhealth consortium, for the second (and final) integration module. The students, who first met during the first integration module in Krakow in July 2007, had the pleasure of meeting afresh in Rennes in order to work in groups on two European public health themes: “Healthy cities’ network in Europe‿ and “Citizens’ involvement in health and services policies‿.
They have also presented their research works through a poster exhibition opened to votes. Francesca Senese (Italy) has thereby been awarded for the quality of her poster “Has decentralization of health care in Italy affected horizontal equity?‿ and won a subscription to the newspaper “European Journal of Public Health‿ published by the EUPHA (link).
The first Europubhealth graduation
At the end of the module, the 11th of July, they emotionally received their diplomas surrounded with the consortium partners, the EHESP staff, their family and friends coming from the 4 corners of the world.
They will also keep in mind of this long-expected event a scarf especially fashioned for this occasion by a creative artist domiciled in Brittany, “Philogan‿. This ceremony set in happiness and interculturality, with interventions of the consortium partners and students in the Europubhealth teaching languages, punctuated with the EHESP choral group songs and the traditional Breton band Yudal Combo. This downbeat signals the outcome of two studying years devoted to the richness of personal and cultural diversities. It also symbolises the beginning of a professional career in the field of Public Health dedicated to international outlooks, fed by the narrow links created with students and professionals met during this excellence education.
