Students: nationals of member states and associates of UNESCO Grant-awarding organization: NGO and Youth associations Study areas: education, sciences and technology, social and human sciences, culture, communication; mostly in touch with the promotion of the economic and social development Grant duration: up to 9 months Application details: candidature must be presented by the national authorities appointed by the governments of the member states of Unesco (generally, the national commission for Unesco or competent ministry in the field of study chosen). The regional offices have some fellowship and scholarship programmes which are carried out in cooperation with the ministries of health in countries.

Students: Commonwealth citizens and British protected persons permanently resident in any Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom Grant-awarding organization: Commonwealth member governments Study areas: unrestricted subjects, but for developing countries applications should clearly be related to the future social and economic development of their home country Level: postgraduate study Grant duration: maximum of 36 months Eligibility: - General scholarships are open to Commonwealth citizens and British protected persons permanently resident in any Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom
- Awards are for postgraduate study, with the exception of applicants from the Falkland Islands, Maldives, Seychelles and St Helena, who may also apply for undergraduate courses
- Candidates for postgraduate study should hold an upper second class degree or equivalent
- Applications must be submitted by a CSFP nominating body. These include national agencies in participating countries, a number of universities in developing countries and a small number of other organisations. From 2006 entry, General Scholarships will incorporate the former Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarships: view the list of universities and inter-university bodies invited to nominate candidates for 2006 entry. Please note that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK cannot consider or acknowledge applications from unsolicited sources
