  • After I graduated in Medicine from Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow in 1985 (MD) I have completed specialization in Geriatrics and Public Health and defended dissertation thesis in 2003 at Medical Faculty of JUMC. The themes of my PhD dealt with measuring needs and access of the elderly to medical and social care services. For many years I worked as a medical doctor in acute and long-term care institutions for the elderly. Since 1994 I am a lecturer and researcher in the Health Promotion Department at the Institute of Public Health of JUMC. My areas of expertise are organization of long-term care with focus on health promotion and quality of care assurance. I have participated in several international research projects (BIOMED2 - COPE, 5th FP- CLESA, 5th FP-EUROPHEN, EUNESE), which dealt with problems of the quality of life of the elderly and their care-givers, their access to health care services and falls prevention among the elderly. I am a Member of the Polish Society of Gerontology since 1986, Honorary Research Fellow at School of Health and Related Research of the Sheffield University since 1996. Since 2004 Associate Fellow of InterRAI Corporation for the Cross-National Assessment of Elderly and Disabled Persons and Member of Editorial Board of European Journal of Ageing edited by Springer.
