Andrew is a Clinical Lecturer in Public Health Medicine and holds an honorary appointment as Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine at Eastern Wakefield Primary Care Trust.
After training in General Practice in Northumberland, Andrew studied tropical medicine before working overseas for 6 years. Most of his work was in Nepal working alongside District Health Officers to improve primary health care provision. Latterly he was seconded from the Department for International Development to Nepal's Ministry of Health where he supported the development of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. He has also undertaken advocacy work relating to TB and HIV for Health and Development Networks.
Andrew previously held the post of Visiting Research Fellow and subsequently Honorary Lecturer at the Nuffield Institute for Health at the University of Leeds. His research interests are in international health, health systems, HIV, TB and access to services. The overarching theme is of health inequalities and social exclusion.
